Symposium on Exploration & Production of Unconventional Resources
April 13 - 15, 2026
Neuquén, Argentina

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) invites you to the Symposium on Exploration & Production of Unconventional Resources which will take place from April 13 to 15, 2026, in Neuquén, Argentina.
This Symposium will provide professionals in the oil and gas industry with the opportunity to share and enhance their knowledge of Unconventional Resources through the exchange of experiences in new technologies, operational practices, and other critical aspects. The purpose of this exchange is to accelerate the implementation of best practices (both technical and operational) for the economic development of these resources.
The main objective of the symposium is to facilitate access to greater efficiency and sustainability throughout the entire process, from exploration and development to production, transportation, and commercialization of unconventional hydrocarbon resources.

About the Symposium
The program will focus on the use of new technologies and operational practices aimed to increase efficiency in the various stages of the Exploration & Production process of Unconventional Resources. Materials, supplies, services, the use of artificial intelligence, production treatment, transportation, commercialization, and the sustainability of the processes will also be key aspects of the event.
Format of the Symposium
The symposium aims to maximize the exchange of ideas between attendees and presenters through technical sessions followed by extensive debates. Specific topics will attract an informed audience, motivating them to discuss critical issues regarding the emergence of new technologies and the application of more efficient practices. There will be a combination of technical papers and special presentations such as case studies, practice improvements, and field examples reviews, highlighting engineering achievements and lessons learned. Open discussions and the presentation of real-world field applications (even if not successful) will be encouraged, aiming to critically examine the advantages and disadvantages of the changes made.
Simultaneous translation (Spanish – English and English – Spanish) will be available during all Technical Sessions and Plenary Sessions of the Event.
Topics of the Symposium
- Advanced Well Construction Practices.
- Unconventional Reservoir Geology and Engineering.
- Well Completion and Stimulation for Unconventionals.
- Unconventional Field Development Strategies. Interference and Well Testing.
- Production Optimization and Artificial Lift.
- Return on Investment (ROI) and Enhanced Recovery.
- Digital Transformation and the AI Revolution.
- Energy Transition and Sustainable Development.
- Operational Efficiency, Infrastructure and Supply Chain Development.
- Human Capital and QHSE Performance.
The focus of this symposium is on “Tight Gas”, “Shale Oil” and “Shale Gas” reservoirs. Other disciplines such as “Heavy Oil Recovery”, “Coal Bed Methane”, “Methane Hydrates”, etc., which could also be classified as unconventional hydrocarbon resources, are not part of the theme of this particular event.

Technical Papers
Authors whose abstracts are selected for presentation in the Symposium will have two options to show their work:
- To have a Technical Paper registered, numbered and published by the SPE (in the Symposium Proceedings and in the SPE One Petro virtual library). An URL containing copies of the Symposium Papers under this option will be available to all attendees following the Symposium.
- Not to have a formal Paper numbered nor published by the SPE (if they want to keep the confidentiality of the information within the Symposium scope). The authors under this option will not need to write a Technical Paper following the standard format of the SPE. Therefore, there will not be a Paper available in the URL of the Symposium (neither in One Petro). Authors will only need to prepare a Power Point presentation for the Symposium. These PPT presentations might be published in our local web page only if the SPE Argentina receives explicit consent from the authors.
- To have a Technical Paper registered, numbered and published by the SPE (in the Symposium Proceedings and in the SPE One Petro virtual library). An URL containing copies of the Symposium Papers under this option will be available to all attendees following the Symposium.
